About the Book

FROM INFERTILITY TO FAMILY OF THREE

NEW BOOK SHOWS THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY OF THE “MAGIC EGG” AND HOW NOT ALL FAMILIES ARE CREATED THE SAME.

Told Through the Lens of a Beautifully Illustrated Children’s Book, Parents are able to Share this Origin Story with their Own Small Miracles.

Shauna Nicholson Kelly is like many career-minded, independent women of our generation, chasing her dreams and building a professional life. For 25 years, she worked as the personal house manager for celebrities from Ian Ziering and the Black Key’s Dan Auerbach, to Lady A’s Hillary Scott and television legend Mike Judge. So, when she met her husband and the two of them decided to start a family, her body had other plans.

Following years of infertility treatments, a hysterectomy, and a Mother's Day miscarriage, she was left feeling hopeless and depressed. Shauna and her husband continued to pray for the miracle they had been hoping for, which came in the form of an egg donor and surrogate. They are now the proud parents of a vivacious and amazing little girl, Vaughn, who will turn 4 just before Mother's Day.

The Magic Egg is this story, told through the lens of beautiful illustrations by 13-year old Maris June Findling, for Shauna to not only share with her own daughter but for others who have been through the difficult and emotional journey of infertility to explain the beauty of how different families are created, whether by adoption, surrogacy, IVF, etc.

“My hope is that this makes an otherwise difficult conversation a little easier for parents who want to explain how their family may be created differently, but it is still just as beautiful.”

Psychologists recommend talking to your children about their "origin story" early, which was the driving desire for Shauna to create this book, so her own daughter could embrace and understand who she is and where she came from. And in doing so, Shauna realized the book could do the same for other parents and children alike. https://thedonorsolution.com/how-to-explain-to-your-children-they-came-from-an-egg-donor/

“The story of a barnyard gift and a magical gifted egg that created a family grew in my mind as I raised my young daughter, and thought ahead to how I would one day share the story of her birth with her,” said Nicholson-Kelly.

The Magic Egg takes place at Woodpecker Farm, where one sunny day, the eggs hatched and the baby chicks tumbled out into the world. But not all of the mama hens had chicks of their own. Sometimes it takes kindness and a little bit of magic to make a family.

Nicholson-Kelly worked with a childhood friend, Kim Cooper Findling, publisher of a book publishing company in Oregon, to bring The Magic Egg to life. Findling’s daughter, Maris Findling, is a talented artist who created the barnyard illustrations for the book.

The Magic Egg is available on Amazon.com for pre-order and will release on Mother’s Day of this year through Ingram Publishers. It will also be available in local bookstores. It is published by Dancing Moon Press.
